Personal Narrative (Haunted High)

Butterflies began flittering around my stomach, as I approached the dreaded passageway.  Blood wrenching shrieks echoed throughout the massive, winding hall.
“Next!” demanded a man, as he gestured me to the forbidding hallway.  Trembling, I grasped Cali’s wrist, not wanting to go in alone.  For the first time I felt her shudder, while the hunched man directed us to the entrance.  I locked eyes with Cali, she managed to pull off a crooked grin that soon becomes a straight face.  Taking a deep breath, we heaved the rickety door open.  Heart pounding, the door slammed shut behind us.
“Welcome to Haunted High!  No turning back now!” chuckled a mystifying tone, over the loud speaker.  I gulped as we began to walk at a quicker pace.
Blood trickled  down the ancient, brick wall.  Followed by a crimson puddle at the end of the passage.  Spider webs creped across the ceiling, tangling their prey.  Rusting chains slouched from the brick wall. I had now entered my living nightmare, that became more dreadful with every step I took.
“Be brave, none of this is real,” Cali reminded me.
“I know, but which way do we go now?” I asked her, truly puzzled.  Two wobbly, wooden doors soon became a growing trouble.  I inspected  both doors, to discover no obvious difference.
“Left or right?” Cali wondered.  Without a question I twisted the doorknob of the right door.  Together, we tiptoed through a narrow passageway.  There, everything was silent.  Anxiety built up inside me, just waiting for a horrid face to burst out from the shadows.  We kept wondering into the darkness, were we lost?
“Cali?  Where are we?” I croaked, throat dry.  She struggled to find my arm in the pitch black.
“I have no idea, are we lost?” she wondered, apprehension showed in her startled voice.
“Let’s hope not, did we choose the wrong door?” a thousand questions flutter through my mind.
“ What about the left side!” Cali rethought our decision.  At once, we turn around just to find a creepy clown, grinning at us.
“Cali, it looks like we can only go forward,” I admitted.  Her troubled facial expression dropped into a frown.  I decided to take the first step forward, and be the brave one for once.  She opened her mouth to disagree, but decided to follow.  As the damp, musty halls grew brighter I gain a little bit more courage.
“Yes!  Finally we are almost out!” announced Cali.  Quickly we dashed to the light, not knowing what it really was.  Once we reach the brightness, we realize it wasn’t our way out.  Strobe lights flashed, blinding me.  Feeling like a deer in headlights I finally find my senses.  After blinking my eyes I regained my vision.  An assortment of dazzling neon shapes cover the black walls.  Glowing, like stars in the night sky.  The luminating shapes swirl and dance across our path.  Distracted I could barely realize that we were almost to the end.  Just then the glow begins to fade into darkness.  Our final destination is footsteps away.  Only a door blocks our way out.  Coated in cobwebs we yanked the door open.
A chilly breeze whispered through the pine trees.  Stars twinkled in the peaceful night sky.  No way, we actually had made it out alive!
                “It’s over!” I gasped
“This is a miracle!” Cali proclaimed.  I’m still speechless, shocked, mind rattled.  Just then a chill crawled up my spine.  A frosty breeze whizzed across my flushed cheeks.  Heavy footsteps boomed behind us.  First instinct I leaped around to see...nothing.  Cali and I were timid, neither of us willing to take the first step into the darkness.
“Did you hear footsteps, too?” I whimpered.
“Yes, but maybe it was just our imagination,” Cali tried to lighten the mood.  I knew as a fact that I heard footsteps!
“No, I know what I heard.  You heard it, too!” I stated.  She flashes me a hopeful look, I can tell she is scared of her wits.  Maybe I am the crazy one, had I just imagined the sounds?  I tried and shake it off, but couldn’t.  Cali signaled me back onto the trail. Silently I trailed behind her, still a bit cautious.  Suddenly out of the overgrown bushes screeched a chainsaw!  The chainsaw roared like lion as is chased us down the curving trail.  I  barely had time to catch my breath before I was sprinting!  Finally the chainsaw died down, leaving me breathless.
“Have a great night!  I hope you have a fantastic Halloween!” chirped a kind voice from behind the chain saw.
“We have to come back next year!” I smile.
“Yeah, and the year after that!” she agrees.
